Interpreting Your Result

The Idunnova SARS-CoV-2 Antigen Instant Quandary Test uses a virtual coin-toss to give you a positive or negative COVID-19 test result.

You may think that this makes the test useless, and even unsafe if anyone was to take it seriously. And so do we.

But the Idunnova tests probably miss fewer COVID-19 cases than the Innova SARS-CoV-2 Antigen Rapid Qualitative Tests – which are the lateral flow tests promoted by the UK government.

According to an article in the BMJ, while being used to screen students at Birmingham University, the Innova test only picked up an estimated 3.2% of positive COVID-19 cases, meaning that an estimated 60 of the 7189 students were incorrectly given a negative COVID-19 result.

Of course the Idunnova test’s practical use is limited by its very high false positive result. However the BMJ reported that the false positive rate of the Innova test could be as high as 58% - not great either.

Innova Medical Group told the BMJ in statement “This low level of efficacy is not achievable in any manner where the test is used properly and sample collection is taken correctly. When used properly the Innova test is a highly effective tool in detecting infectious people and allowing for proper response to assist in the reducing of the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.”
